While the 1980s games' Donkey Kong and the modern Donkey Kong share the same name, the manual for Donkey Kong Country and subsequent games portray the former as Cranky Kong, the latter's grandfather, with the exception of Donkey Kong 64, in which Cranky is depicted as his father. This version of the character persists as the main one up to today. The Donkey Kong Country subseries was launched in 1994 with a new Donkey Kong as the protagonist (although several installments focus on his friends Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong instead). The original Donkey Kong first appeared as the title character and antagonist of the eponymous 1981 game, a platformer by Nintendo, which would lead to the Donkey Kong series. And while we don't know for sure, we'd guess there will be at least a few warp pipes, question boxes, and maybe even a Goomba or two to be found in this new land. This is certainly an exciting development, and should help this new land ascend to a whole new level (pardon the expression) of immersion. And now it looks like Universal is going to replicate this idea with the upcoming Nintendo Land.Īccording to rumors and leaked plans, there will be several interactive elements to this new land, including the ability to collect coins just like Mario does in his video games. The ability to purchase a wand and cast spells in particular has been a thrill for longtime fans of this franchise, and is a great way to keep guests entertained in this land when they're not in line. There will be plenty of interactive elements around the worldĪnd speaking of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, one of the big strengths of Universal's two Harry Potter lands is the interactive features that can be found around both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. Details are scarce, but hopefully we'll learn more about this second ride in the very near future. Interestingly, it is rumored that these characters will be represented by animatronics instead of screens, which is a departure from the recently-constructed Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts attraction, which also has a mine cart theme.

We don't know a lot about this project, rumors seem to indicate that this attraction will be similar to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Walt Disney World, with guests boarding a mine cart, and then zooming past several show scenes featuring characters from the video game series. In addition to the Mario Kart racing ride, there will also be a roller coaster built in this new land that will be themed to the Donkey Kong video game franchise. A Donkey Kong roller coaster will also be built
